Vacation Time

I enjoy my work tremendously, but there are plenty of reasons to take extended time off. I might go into them someday, but today I want to describe how 'work time' feels different from 'vacation time'.

'Work time' typically sees me carefully allocating time, setting limits on how I spend it, making sure I get the most of my days and keeping track of where time goes.

It usually takes me a few days to transition from 'work time' to 'vacation time', but it's a very different way of perceiving time.

Stage one: What day of the week is it? What day of the month? Other than seeing certain businesses being open or closed, it takes me a little while to even figure out what day it is. There's no reason to, after all.

Eventually, I just leave my watch on the night stand and go about my day. I wake up whenever my body feels like waking up, eat when hungry, play or read if I'm otherwise bored, go to bed when I feel sleepy. No schedules, just following a natural rhythm.

Happy time independence!
